great question. and there are a few answers. first and foremost, because plastic SUCKS. for the environment, for our oceans, for all of it. we also aren't crazy about plastic's current main alternatives: paper and metal. paper floats around in your drink if you don't drink it fast enough (pace is key in some cases, friends) and metal straws tend to have, well, a metal taste. on top of that, glass doesn't get too cold or too hot depending on what you're drinking.
but, won't it break?
another great question – and probably our most common. our straws are made of the strongest commercially-available glass, and can withstand temperatures up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit. like any glass product, you should take care of how you treat it. FUN FACT! our straws use the same glass that NASA uses in the space shuttle. that's right – we both use Borosilicate.
want to know more about borosilicate?
borosilicate glass was discovered in the late 1800s. it’s primarily made up of boron oxide and silica –– makes sense, right? –– and is absolutely not made up of any lead or harmful ingredients. seriously, this glass is BPA-free, Lead-free and Toxin-free. it’s more durable than other glass (again, it can literally be heated to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit before it will melt), and is microwave, oven, freezer and dishwasher-safe.
what sizes do these straws come in?
we currently offer two sizes! 8" (great for tall glasses, smoothies and your regular glass of water) and 4" cocktail straws (great for, well, cocktails).
how much do they cost?
our 8" straws are $15 and our 4" straws are $11. we offer cleaning brushes with all of our straws for an additional $2. click HERE to shop!
what if I bite my straws?
we get it – old habits die hard. while it would be very hard to bite through this straw, we seriously advise that you don’t as you can damage your teeth.
